Xmas songs no. 6: Something Corporate – “Forget December”

Fo' Shizzle St. NizzleSince today’s review was Saves the Day, I wanted to post their cover of Darlene Love’s “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” as today’s Xmas song. However, it was only available to pledgers of their new album, and I don’t have the space upgrade necessary to upload mp3s to the blog. There’s a live acoustic version of it on YouTube, but the electric studio recording is better so I recommend you pirate it. Instead, to keep the emo theme going, here’s a holiday song by Something Corporate. I believe it first appeared on the same Kevin & Bean compilation that yesterday’s Dashboard Confessional track is from, though it was later reissued and re-mixed on some of the band’s own releases.

On Christmas morning, outside was pouring, all was hopeless in this home
And no one’s speaking, no one creeping to see if she was on the phone
And you were quiet, this routine riot was all but practical to me
And if we see it, why can’t we beat it? Can we let each other be?

Forget December, it won’t be better than I remember it before
And this month only will be so lonely and not so holy anymore

New Year’s Eve came but nothing had changed, all the problems just got worse
We sat in silence, no routine science could heal the sickness we rehearse
And if I’m talking, my words are mocking the deaf ears they have fallen on
These words are tainted with years of jaded innocence that’s all but gone

Forget December, it won’t bet better than I remember it before
A silent night won’t feel quite right; it’s not so silent anymore

On Christmas morning, outside was pouring, all was hopeless in this home
